Task 1 dạng line graph, bar chart có thời gian đều cần một bộ từ mô tả xu hướng. Học cả động từ lẫn danh từ để đổi cấu trúc câu, tránh lặp increase năm lần trong một bài.

Tăng

rise / increase / grow: tăng - The number of visitors rose to 2 million.
climb: leo lên - Sales climbed steadily over the decade.
soar / surge: tăng vọt - Prices soared in 2022.
a rise of 10%: mức tăng 10% (danh từ) - There was a rise of 10% in car ownership.

Giảm

fall / decrease / decline: giảm - Coffee consumption fell slightly.
drop: giảm, rớt - The figure dropped to 15%.
plummet: giảm mạnh, lao dốc - Ticket sales plummeted in 2020.
a decline in: sự sụt giảm (danh từ) - There was a sharp decline in newspaper sales.

Đỉnh, đáy, ổn định, dao động

peak at: đạt đỉnh ở - Unemployment peaked at 9% in 2010.
hit a low of: chạm đáy ở - Exports hit a low of $2 billion.
level off / stabilise: chững lại, ổn định - The rate levelled off after 2015.
fluctuate: dao động - Temperatures fluctuated between 20 and 25 degrees.

Mức độ và tốc độ

dramatically / sharply: mạnh, đột ngột - Prices rose sharply.
significantly / considerably: đáng kể
steadily / gradually: đều, từ từ
slightly / marginally: nhẹ

Động từ + trạng từ: The number of tourists increased significantly between 2010 and 2020.
There was + tính từ + danh từ: There was a significant increase in the number of tourists between 2010 and 2020.

So sánh số liệu

twice as high as: cao gấp đôi - Car use in 2020 was twice as high as in 1990.
the highest / the lowest: cao nhất / thấp nhất
compared with: so với - Spending on food was 20%, compared with 35% on housing.
just under / just over: chỉ dưới / chỉ hơn - Just over half of the students were women.

Increase là nội động từ khi mô tả số liệu tự tăng: không dùng bị động.

Câu hỏi thường gặp

Có nên dùng "skyrocket" không?

Được nếu mức tăng thật sự rất lớn. Nhưng đừng dùng từ mạnh cho thay đổi nhỏ: độ chính xác quan trọng hơn.

Task 1 dùng thì gì?

Năm trong quá khứ: quá khứ đơn. Số liệu dự đoán: is expected to / is predicted to. Không có thời gian: hiện tại đơn.
